Fortinet(R) Announces Major Performance Upgrades for Top-of-the-Line FortiGate-5000 Series Security Platform

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/17/11 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a leading network security provider and the worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced major performance upgrades for its top-of-the-line, chassis-based FortiGate-5140B security platform that supports two new AdvancedTCA™ (ATCA) form factor blades: the FortiSwitch-5203B and the FortiMail-5002B.

The FortiGate-5140B is a high-performance, carrier-grade chassis that provides maximum expandability and configuration flexibility to help address the increasingly complex security needs of next-generation service providers, large enterprises and telecommunications networks.

Operating as the cornerstone of high-performance security infrastructures, the FortiGate-5140B combines native 40-Gigabit Ethernet support with a highly flexible and reliable ATCA-compliant architecture. As a result, the platform accommodates and optimizes the performance of a wide range of Fortinet's consolidated security, secure switching, centralized management and secure messaging blades. Offering industry-leading performance, reliability and scalability, the FortiGate-5140B's security capabilities protect multi-tenant, cloud-based security-as-a-service and infrastructure-as-a-service environments.

About the FortiSwitch-5203B Blade
With the introduction of the FortiSwitch-5203B, Fortinet is once again leading the industry with native firewalling, virtual private network (VPN), traffic routing and load balancing capabilities on a single ATCA form-factor blade with dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 support for the FortiGate-5000 series. Ideally suited for high-performance, low-latency service provider, enterprise and telecommunications network environments, this multi-function blade features up to 40 Gbps of firewall throughput and more than 300 Gbps of full duplex switching capacity.

About the FortiMail-5002B Blade
As a second-generation blade for the FortiGate-5000 series, the FortiMail-5002B is a powerful secure messaging platform for carriers, service providers and large enterprises. Purpose-built for the most demanding messaging systems, the FortiMail-5002B leverages Fortinet's years of experience in protecting customers from spam, malware and other message-borne threats.

For the first time, FortiMail can process two million e-mail messages per hour running full antivirus and antispam filtering to protect high volume messaging systems, while maintaining high network performance. This breakthrough is made possible by the new blade's 10 Gbps backplane connectivity, making it ideally suited to outbound spam solutions. FortiMail's outbound inspection technology helps to block outbound spam and malware (including mobile traffic) so that other antispam gateways won't blacklist carrier subscribers. This protects a domain's reputation and helps ensure uninterrupted service delivery. The FortiMail-5002B provides additional spam protection by allowing mobile carriers to track individual handsets and 3G data cards, independent of IP or email address. Devices that change IP addresses frequently can be difficult to track and block, allowing spammers to avoid detection.

"Because the security stakes are so high for service providers, large enterprises and telecommunications networks, we are constantly pushing the performance and innovation envelope for this critical customer base," said Patrick Bedwell, vice president of product marketing with Fortinet. "The results of these efforts are obvious in the significant performance enhancements we're delivering for our top-of-the-line FortiGate-5000 series. We recognize customers are making a strategic and ongoing investment in our carrier-grade security platform. And that's why we will continue to add new security capabilities and enhance performance, as seen in the two new high-performance, multi-function security blades and chassis we're introducing today."

Availability
The FortiGate-5140B, FortiSwitch-5203B and FortiMail-5002B will be available in Q4 2011.
