Nebraska State Treasurer's Office Secures Network Security With Fortinet

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/28/11 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a leading network security provider and the worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that the State of Nebraska's Treasurer's Office has deployed Fortinet appliances throughout its network to help provide firewall, web content filtering, IPS, antivirus, DLP and application control protection.

The Nebraska State Treasurer's Office (Treasurer's Office) is responsible for handling all state money from taxes to tuition, all unclaimed financial property, the Nebraska College Savings Program (a nationally distributed 529 plan that helps parents and grandparents save for their children's and grandchildren's education), the child support payment center, long-term care savings plan and communicating to the citizens of Nebraska how the state spends and receives funds. With all this, it is critical for the Treasurer's Office to have a network security solution that will not only help protect from network attacks, but also help protect the personal information of its citizens.

The Treasurer's Office had previously deployed a firewall solution but it lacked the security functionality needed and the necessary flexibility, and it consistently did not perform, leaving them vulnerable. Infogressive, a Fortinet platinum partner that specializes in providing clients with customized network security solutions, worked with the Treasurer's Office and implemented Fortinet products to solve these problems.

"When we were introduced to Infogressive we knew that we could trust them because they offered up a solution that was going to meet our needs and one that would fit our needs down the road," said Charles Luginbill, IT director for the Nebraska State Treasurer's Office. "The Fortinet solution has enabled us to have tighter controls on our network so that we are aware of what is happening at all times. With both Infogressive and Fortinet, I now sleep better at night."

Now, deployed throughout the Treasurer's Office's network are multiple FortiGate appliances providing firewall, web content filtering, IPS, antivirus, DLP and application control protection. With the deployment of the Fortinet appliances, the Treasurer's Office was able to consolidate security functionalities into single appliances eliminating the necessity of having multiple appliances with multiple vendors.

In addition, the consolidation of the appliances added both functionality and flexibility. By using the application control feature within the FortiGate appliances, the Treasurer's Office now has tighter controls over social media and other non-approved applications. Moreover, through the use of the DLP feature they have been able to better monitor data that is trying to exit the network, both intentionally and unintentionally.

"The State of Nebraska's Treasurer's Office's deployment of Fortinet products is further validation of Fortinet's ability to help companies save money by consolidating network security features into a single appliance," said Pete Brant, vice president of enterprise sales at Fortinet. "The combination of Fortinet and Infogressive is giving the department a world-class solution that is scalable, cost-effective and easy to manage."
