Fortinet Named Leader of Worldwide Unified Threat Management Market for 23rd Consecutive Quarter by Leading Market Research Firm

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/11/12 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that new IDC Tracker research data positions Fortinet as the number one vendor in worldwide UTM factory revenue for Q3 2011, published on December 23, 2011. This data marks the 23rd consecutive quarter Fortinet has maintained its leadership position.

"IDC's data shows that the demand for multi-function security devices is growing in the enterprise and across all sectors and regions," said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet. "Our ability to innovate and provide flexible, customizable solutions to address the security needs of our customers -- whether they need a firewall, a next-generation firewall or UTM -- will enable us to continue to be the leader in this growing market."

By definition, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device including the emerging next-generation firewall, and next-generation IPS segments. In the third quarter, Fortinet extended its overall market share as measured by revenue for UTM and achieved leadership in total units shipped in several countries. This is important to note as IDC cites UTM as one of the leading growth drivers for network security -- a market IDC predicts will be worth $10.4B by 2015.

Data in the latest IDC Worldwide December 2011 Security Appliance Tracker indicated:

  • Fortinet leads the market with 18.0% UTM share
  • Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Q3 2011
  • Fortinet is the total units shipped leader in 3 of the 5 super regions tracked
  • Fortinet leads the market in revenue in 4 of the 8 tracked price-bands

Fortinet's FortiGate® appliances are consolidating security functionality across wired and wireless architectures in enterprises, managed security service providers (MSSPs) and telecommunications carriers for higher performance and a lower total cost of ownership. Custom FortiASIC-accelerated security technology greatly improves the performance of the appliance's integrated UTM features, including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, as well as many other security and networking functions, such as Web filtering, anti-spam, WAN optimization, and data leakage prevention (DLP). FortiGate systems help provide security protection through updates by Fortinet's FortiGuard® Network, to help guard against the most damaging threats, such as viruses, worms, advanced intrusions and other unwanted network traffic -- around the clock and around the world. FortiGate appliances are integrated with a broad security ecosystem product offering, including messaging, Web application firewall, database security, management and analysis systems and end-point security solutions. FortiGate appliances also contain a wireless controller so that wired and wireless infrastructures are simply implemented and more secure with one security platform. The entire security environment can be easily managed and reported through enterprise scale FortiManager and ForiAnalyzer for a single pane of glass policy and visualization.
