Fortinet Earns Common Criteria EAL 4+ Certification for FortiGate Multi-Threat Security Appliances and FortiOS Firmware

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/29/11 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced the company's FortiGate-200B and FortiGate-620B multi-threat security solutions and its FortiOS 4.0 firmware have earned certification for Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL 4+). The certification process provides a third-party evaluation service for determining the trustworthiness of information technology security products, which is fundamentally important to the company's enterprise and government customers.

Common Criteria evaluations involve formal rigorous analysis and testing to examine security aspects of a product or system. Extensive testing activities involve a comprehensive and formally repeatable process, confirming that the security product functions as claimed by the manufacturer. Security weaknesses and potential vulnerabilities are specifically examined during an evaluation.

FortiGate multi-threat security solutions provide consolidated, high-performance and flexible security for all businesses from the remote office to large enterprises, service providers and carriers. Underpinning the FortiGate® product line is FortiOS™, a security-hardened, purpose-built operating system that leverages the hardware acceleration provided by custom FortiASIC™ processors that deliver the broadest suite of IPv6-ready security and networking services available within a single device.

"Common Criteria EAL 4+ certification gives our enterprise and government customers the peace of mind that our FortiGate security solutions can be independently tested, trusted and reliably implemented," said Michael Xie, founder, CTO and vice president of engineering at Fortinet. "This EAL 4+ certification is a testament to the more than 10 years of research and development we have invested in these products and we believe further reinforces our position as a leader in the UTM space."

The Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluations, also known as ISO standard 15408, was developed by the national security organizations of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and The Netherlands. It provides a broad range of evaluation criteria for many types of commercial and nationally-sensitive government-use IT security products. EAL 4+ is the highest assurance level recognized globally by all certificate authorizing schemes under the Common Criteria Mutual Recognition Agreement.

"This EAL 4+ certification demonstrates Fortinet's continuing commitment to Common Criteria testing of their flagship FortiGate product line," said Erin Connor, Director of the EWA-Canada Common Criteria Test Lab. "We found the FortiGate to be uncomplicated to configure and test and ultimately integrate into an enterprise network based on its comprehensive user and installation documentation. End users deploying the FortiGate solution should be confident in that they are using a product that meets rigorous international standards."

Fortinet's FortiGate® systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate core security and network functionalities including firewall, SSL and IPSec VPN, antivirus, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, antispam, application control, data loss prevention, SSL traffic inspection and WAN optimization. FortiGate's unique approach combines custom FortiASIC processors with latest generation general CPUs to minimize packet processing while accurately scanning the data for threats. Custom FortiASIC™ processors help enable organizations to detect malicious content and connection-based threats at multi-Gigabit speeds.
