Fortinet(R) Unveils Second Generation FortiASIC-SoC2

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/16/12 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a world leader in high-performance network security -- today introduced its second generation FortiASIC-SoC2, which is expected to provide groundbreaking hardware-accelerated network security performance for FortiGate appliances. The SoC architecture combines general purpose processing power with Fortinet's custom ASIC technology into a single chip, simplifying the overall appliance design while delivering industry-leading performance. The FortiASIC-SoC2 is the first in a number of custom-architected FortiASICs that Fortinet intends to unveil in the coming months and is expected to enable enterprise-grade security performance at a breakthrough price point and a simpler appliance design for smaller networks.

The FortiASIC-SoC2 provides more than double the general processing capacity than its predecessor, the FortiASIC-SoC, which Fortinet introduced in the FortiGate and FortiWiFi product family in 2010. The architectural advancements of the FortiASIC-SoC2 include 109 million transistors and the use of more advanced semiconductor technologies and design. In addition, this new FortiASIC package should enable desktop appliances to deliver higher levels of IPSec and SSL hardware acceleration for improved protection and performance.

"Our ASIC engineering team has been able to take advantage of their previous achievements in delivering breakthrough performance with Fortinet's systems," said Michael Xie, founder, CTO and vice president of engineering for Fortinet. "By increasing the amount of processing power and integrating technology from our network processer (NP) and content processor (CP) FortiASICs, we anticipate the FortiASIC-SoC2 will have huge improvements in function and performance, such as more than a 10x improvement in encryption throughput while also providing a more flexible internal design. We are looking forward to deploying this new FortiASIC within the next-generation of FortiGate models and eventually other Fortinet products."
