Fortinet(R) Continues to Expand the Industry's Broadest Security Portfolio With New Multi-Threat Appliance for Mid-Sized Businesses and Large Branch Offices

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/04/12 -- Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a world leader in high-performance network security -- today announced the introduction of its newest multi-threat security appliance for medium sized businesses and large enterprise branch offices.

As the newest member of the industry's broadest portfolio of multi-threat security appliances, the FortiGate-800C provides customers with additional flexibility to select the security solution that most closely matches their port density and bandwidth requirements. Unlike competitive offerings, the FortiGate product family allows customers to "right-size" their network security, alleviating the common problem of devices that are either too expensive for their needs or provide less performance than they require. No other firewall in its price class offers the 10 Gbps interfaces, onboard memory and bypass ports of the FortiGate-800C.

With 20 Gbps firewall throughput and wide range of configuration options, the high-speed network security capabilities of the FortiGate-800C are designed to address several market dynamics impacting customers today:

  • Soaring bandwidth demands due to the increasing use of content-rich social media and Web 2.0 applications
  • The explosion of multiple mobile devices accessing these applications -- increasingly through Wi-Fi connections -- that require an application firewall with the ability to process millions of connections per second
  • The increase in hard-to-detect attacks being launched from the application layer

These factors, combined with today's complex and rapidly changing threat landscape, demand advanced security solutions that can scale to meet ever-increasing performance requirements including the need for increased port density and interface flexibility, plus the need to exert greater application control.

The FortiGate-800C features significant capacity and performance improvements, as well as configuration options that facilitate network growth and the expansion of branch office deployments. Shared media interfaces help ease the transition process for organizations looking to migrate from copper to fiber, and bypass interfaces automatically bridge network traffic in the event of a system failure or power outage to ensure mission-critical network continuity.

To help secure Wi-Fi connections, the FortiGate-800C features an integrated wireless controller. Similar to wired traffic management, the wireless LAN controller in the FortiGate-800C manages wireless traffic. Role-based firewall policies, protocol-level network access and application-based traffic shaping are examples of the granular control policies provided by the FortiGate-800C. Without requiring another set of devices to control wireless traffic, customers benefit from both simplified network architecture and an integrated approach to security.

Like other members of the FortiGate product family, the FortiGate-800C combines firewall, application control, IP Sec and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention, antivirus, antimalware, antispam and Web filtering into a single device with all features turned on for a single price. And the appliance supports IPv6 traffic out of the box. Fortinet has been a leader in protecting IPv6 networks since 2007, achieving both IPv6-Ready and JITC certifications in 2008.

FortiGate-800CSpecifications
As a high performance and high capacity security appliance, the FortiGate-800C delivers 20 Gbps of firewall throughput, 6 Gbps of IPS throughput (HTTP traffic) and can support up to 7 million concurrent firewall sessions. The FortiGate-800C delivers 2.1 Gbps of flow-based antivirus protection or 1.7 Gbps of proxy-based throughput.

Because of the increasing mobility of today's workforce and the growing importance of branch office operations transferring sensitive data, the new appliance supports 10,000 Client-to-Gateway IPSec VPN tunnels. In addition, it supports up to 3,000 concurrent SSL VPN users.

The appliance supports today's advanced networks with 2 X10 GbE interfaces, as well as 12 X 10/100/1000 interfaces that can be easily partitioned into independent security zones and custom combinations of LAN and WAN ports. Shared copper and fiber interfaces support evolving networks that may be migrating to fiber on select network segments. Network availability is protected through the bypass ports on the FortiGate-800C.

"Customers in the mid-enterprise market do not want to be forced into a 'one-size-fits-all' model of network security, which is why we continue to broaden our portfolio of security appliances to offer a wide spectrum of features, future-ready technology, scalability and performance," said Patrick Bedwell, vice president of product marketing for Fortinet. "Our customers have made it clear that they require choices when selecting the right appliance to deploy, plus they need the consolidation of security functionality that Fortinet provides. The introduction of the FortiGate-800C continues to demonstrate our commitment to ensure customers can select exactly the right security solution that fits their unique security, network performance and budget requirements."
